Q: I know there are more personal things going on in your life, why don’t you post more personal stuff on your blog?

A: Nothing like a question from a friend to kick in my long-windedness. I might wind up doing a podcast about this in the future, but I’ll go ahead and answer this here as well. I was raised not to “air your dirty laundry” as it were. Basically, no matter what is going on in my life, good or bad, I have a problem with exposing it to everyone that could possibly stumble in here. People are watching.

Sound paranoid? I didn’t used to be, but even employers are now searching the web to see what they can come up with on a potential job candidate. People have been fired for postings they made online. Think you can just delete anything personal so that job you’re applying for, your current job, your ex and his/her significant other, or your parents won’t find out just how neurotic you really are? Check out The Wayback Machine.

Granted, there are a lot of broken images, but I can see what Macabre Manor looked like back as far as April of 2004. All the textual content is still there.

So, I post inane things that don’t mean much most of the time. It makes for a very boring blog, I know. Granted, I’m hiding behind a pseudonym, which will probably make me bolder in the future, but as long as my daughter still lives at home I will remain very guarded. I know this makes me sound uber paranoid, but I’m really just being careful.

This isn’t the answer the questioner wanted, but for now it’s the way I feel about posts that are overly personal.

Q: What are your New Years resolutions?

A: I have things I want to accomplish in 2009. I suppose you could call them resolutions. It seems like attaching the word resolution to something makes people instantly think failure. If I say I want to lose 20 lbs, no one blinks and most people are supportive. If I say, my resolution is to lose 20 lbs, I get that “yeah right, like that’s gonna happen” look. So, I don’t know that I’ll be making resolutions this year.

Q: What was the first podcast you ever listened to?

A: Honestly, I’m not sure anymore. There are three podcasts I started listening to in the beginning, but I have no idea which one was actually “the first” podcast I listened to. TWiT was probably the actual first. Wingin’ It was one of the first for sure, and possibly Geek Fu Action Grip. Wingin’ It introduced me to tons of other podcasts and later, podiobooks. Wingin’ It, aside from giving me hours of entertainment, helped me find many incredible podcasts and podcasters.

Q: You also write fantasy. Why didn’t you use one of your gaming names, like Shandryll Spiritwind and go with a fantasy theme?

A: Shandryll is a changed spelling of the name of a character in a book, so I didn’t feel like I could use it. As for why I didn’t go with a fantasy theme… even my fantasy is a little dark, so staying with the macabre side of it all ties all of the genres I write in together.

These two kind of need to be together. :)

Q: Where did the Macabre in your name come from?

A: I started noticing an influx of people using the name Kryson, so I needed to set my name apart. I was Kryson Poet for awhile, but I stopped writing poetry. Kryson Macabre was an easy jump seeing as how my old BBS was called Kryson’s Macabre, Macabre Manor was orignally Kryson’s Macabre and my online journal and blog was Kryson’s Macabre.

Q: But why Macabre?

A: I love horror movies, horror books, thrillers, and the like.

Q: Why haven’t you done anything with your about page?

A: Ugh. I hate writing about myself. I know, tons of people say that and it’s a cop out, but I really have no clue what to put on an about page. I’ll look around and see what types of things people put on their about pages and get mine written soon. Really, I will.

Q: Where did the name Kryson come from?

Kryson is a combination of my first name and my last (maiden) name with the spelling changed. I thought I was being so original at 12 or 13 when I came up with it! Little did I know. When I found the internet in 1990, I found out that Kryson is the last name of a football player, the name of a business (Kryson Technologies, Inc. I believe), and the name of a character in Dr. Who.

Q: Why aren’t you releasing your fiction on your podcast?

A: I’m trying to get the hang of podcasting at the moment. I don’t want it to sound completely horrible when I put my fiction out there. I’m not going to be attempting a huge production nor tons of special effects because I simply don’t have the equipment for it, but I also don’t want it to sound like crap either.

I’m going to be trying my hand at a short story in the next couple of weeks.

Because I’m too lazy to put together an FAQ at the moment, I bring you random questions people have asked me. For some reason, people have asked me a lot of questions about my name.

Q: Why are you using Kryson Macabre instead of your real name?

A: My real name is so common you could probably guess it in just a few tries. It doesn’t stand out, it isn’t cool, it blends in to the 4,000,000 people that have the same name I do. I’ve also been using the name Kryson since 1984-ish and more people know me by Kryson than anything.
